Vamos IFC Soccer!!!

The 2011 summer season turned out to be mucho caliente for International FC. During the week of July 18-23, 2011, IFC’s U-18 squad traveled to Valencia, Spain to participate in the Valencia CF Cup where over 250 teams from around the world showcased their immense talent.

Coaches Peppe and Frank were very proud of the boys’ efforts as they split 1-1-1 in the group stage and ended their tournament in the consolation round. Between games in the Valencia CF Training Complex, the team was also fortunate enough to take part in a variety of activities, from viewing the innermost secrets of the Mestalla Football Stadium to visiting the beautiful beachside resort surrounding the Mediterranean coast.

Overall, International Football Club had an unforgettable week filled with plenty of team spirit, both on and off the field.

International FC Visit The Old Line State...

Beginning May 28 through the 30th, IFC took part in the ADIDAS Memorial Tournament
at the Discovery Maryland Soccerplex in Potomac, Maryland. This prestigious soccer tournament hosted some of the best teams from the United States and Canada on thirty-five of the most pristine outdoor soccer fields. Over 240 college coaches were also in attendance, furthering the hopes of IFC’s best and brightest.

The ADIDAS Memorial Tournament constitutes the first-
step in the scholarship market for the Giovanissimi (1997-
1996) squad who valiantly competed in their under-16 category.
The coaching staff could not be prouder of the team's performance as
results exceeded their expectations.

Finally, the weekend would not be complete without some cultural
flair. While in Maryland, the entire Giovanissimi squad also
had the privilege of touring both the Washington DC area and the
University of Maryland.

An amazing weekend was had by all as International Football Club
looks forward to showcasing more of their talents in the near
future.

U18 Boys Showcase Their Talent

Fresh from his return from Italy, Technical Director Giuseppe Mattace Raso has embarked on yet another soccer adventure. While touring his homeland he took a number of F.I.G.C. coaching clinics terminating with a conference hosted by A.I.A.C. (Associazione Italiana Allenatori Calcio), which included notable coaches such as: Marcello Lippi (2006-2010 Italian National Team Coach), Arrigo Sacchi (former AC Milan and 1994 Italian National Team Coach) and many other current Serie A coaches like AC Fiorentina’s Head Coach Cesare Brandelli.

Just a week later, from April 10th-11th, 2010, International FC’s under 18 (1994, 1993, 1992) boys travelled to St. Louis Missouri, in order to partake in the Metro United Boys College Showcase. The tournament, comprising of 138 American soccer teams, was an opportunity for IFC’s senior team to showcase their first-rate skills. The boys put up a valiant effort in all three of their showcase games in particular against Major League Soccer’s, Chicago Fire Juniors, where IFC tied 1-1 after leading until the 80th minute. Both Coach Peppe and Coach Frank were proud of their boys’ output, “They gave it their all, and we couldn’t be prouder considering the age discrepancy and gruelling travels to get there.”

Although the team is now back in Vaughan, there is no time for rest. The boys are back on the field preparing for their next big tournament in Riccione, Italy where they will meet up with the best Europe has to offer.

During his trip, Coach Peppe found himself in talks with the President of Italian Serie A Soccer, Antonio Matarrese and his brother, Vincenzo Matarrese, President of A.S. Bari (Serie A). After discussing International FC in relation to European soccer, Mr. Antonio Matarrese was not only intrigued by IFC’s unique soccer development program, but he also openly voiced his support for IFC’s mandate to improve Canadian soccer. As a result of this exchange, Coach Peppe now has a clearer understanding of what exactly is needed for Canadian soccer to reach the European level, with a particular emphasis on the Italian soccer model that has been so successful for over 100 years. So join us in welcoming back Coach Peppe as IFC embarks on its newest adventure!
